We bought this trunk at the Flea Market / Antique Shop in Malden, Ma.. We left the canvas on this trunk, which goes against what we believe should be done.
But this canvas was in such excellent shape it would have been a shame to strip it off. Although
both leather handles were still intact, one broke off during restoration & both had to be replaced with new ones, along
with the end caps. The wallpaper inside was removed & sanded down to a smooth finish. The latch plate is brass covered,
but came back to an outstanding shine. semi-gloss rust-o-lem paint. All outside canvas was cleaned & then painted with
Behr Black Swan (dark green) paint. The whole trunk inside & out was given three (3) coats of Formby’s Tung Oil.
The label on the side of the trunk “D.B.H. Power, Trading Place” in Lynn, Massachusetts, is not the manufacture
of the trunk, but just a place it stop along it’s long journey, so we put
it back on afterwards. The original tray was missing when I bought this trunk, my good friend John Head in Florida built a new replacement
tray. This is a very rare child’s trunk, especially in this fine shape. It is very well built with very little use to
this point. Someone took very good care of this beauty.
