This is
a rare humpback trunk was purchased from a young man from Swampscott, Ma. on August 15, 2007. It had been in the cellar
for many years & the man was moving away, so she came to us for restoration. Originally a paper covered trunk, most
of which had worn away through the years and what was left we removed. She
is very well
made & sturdy, the lid opens & closes fitting perfectly into the draw bolts, in other words there is no extra play
in the lid. She is a beautiful trunk with a gorgeous brass lock that comes with a working key, with a patd. date
of "April 77" etched into the key hole cover. Both draw bolts are in fine working order & were left in their natural
cast iron silver color, protected with crystal clear Rust-oleum enamel to provent any rusting. This
is one gem of a trunk, which comes with most of the original wooden compartrments inside the top lid, all but one piece were
still intact with the exception of the opening to the left side compartment. Inside the lid , there was a lithograph
which was removed, cleaned up and installed into its orginal location. The insert tray was also missing & a stunning
replacement tray was built by John Head of Coleman, Florida. She has some beautiful colors running through the her pine exterior.
This trunk, as well as all of our trunks was stripped down and all old parts were removed and cleaned and put back in
their orginal places. All metal trimming was then stripped & repainted with Rust-oleum glossy black paint. The wood was
sanded down to a smooth finish, any grit, dirt or stains were removed during this process, which give it the look she has
now. After which the entire trunk was given five coats of Formby's Tung oil.The bottom as all four original cast iron
casters for easy moving. Both leather handles were dry rotted & replacement ones were attached. This trunk is exquisite
inside & out and will make a great gift for you or a loved one.
